Having easy access to electricity is something that is easily forgotten and taken advantage of when you have never gone without it. Many however, still live in areas without any access to electricity. This year in India roughly 222 million will live in the dark. Having access to electricity is not only important for the citizens’ personal use but also very important in the country’s capability of producing income per capita. Having the capability of lighting up a shop with lights at night allows employees to work at any time of the day. It also gives the ability to these employees to use power tools and machines to further increase production in what ever industry they are in.

One of a country’s biggest worry is access to energy, which mostly comes from fossil fuels. This can cause a huge strain on the country when coming to where they are going to get fuel from to supply their power plants to create energy. If they are not lucky enough to be located on pockets of oil in the ground, they must import fuel from somewhere else. With the increase in technology we are seeing country’s move away from the standard fossil fuels and moving more to renewable energy. This not only cuts down in what they are paying for imported fuel, but can also create money for the home country.
While India is making great progress in being able to produce energy from renewable sources, it still only makes up a small percentage of the total energy produced. The problem is that the rate at which renewable energy sources are being installed is not greater then the rate at which energy is being required. However, every megawatt produced by wind, solar, or hydro, is one less megawatt being required
