The artist wanted to show us that even if technology help us everyday, it can have consequences on our health and we could become addicted to it.
This document illustrates the notion because if refers to progress, indeed it refers to technological progress, that is to say IT progress, such as the computer, but here it is mentioned in a bad way. We see an other side of progress which is the addiction. It shows us that progress isn’t always good for everyone.
Finally, we studied a newspaper article taken from BBC news. The article was dealing with video game addiction. Indeed it alluded to the first clinic in Europe which opened to cure video game addicts, in Netherlands. Then, due to the increase of people suffering from video game addiction, the doctors offered them an eight-week-program to get rid of this dangerous habit, which prevented them from having any social life and which could even lead them to death. This program was followed by a twenty-one-year-old man called Tim who was not allowed to have “access to any computer games”. In addition, he went to “group therapy” and made a lot of activities to replace his hours of playing.
This document illustrates the notion because it kind of refers to medical progress since we could say that they found a cure to being an addict which is not considered as a real illness for some people. But also, it refers to social progress, indeed the addicts overcome their bad habits and do everything that is needed to have a social life again and have a good health.
CONCLUSION
First of all, I think progress is essential to evolve. History is made of progress and evolution that have allowed the world to be what it is today.
In conclusion, I’d say that progress is neither all good or all bad. Put into the hands of human beings, that knowledge can be used for medicine or great advances. It’s not scientific knowledge that is either good or evil, but the application of it.
Humanity is progressing and involving, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worst.
