V. The course of my week:
1st day:
I remember feeling very nervous the first day. I arrived at the Polyclean offices early. At that time I did not know Whitehats was part of Pharaon group of companies. I was approached by what seemed to be a Whitehats employee, I could tell by the polo he was wearing. He had asked me what I needed, I explained that I was the intern that would spend the week at Whitehats. He introduced himself as Bader and told me to sit down and wait for the General Manager, Rizwan Sabir. The building had two floors, in the building were the offices of Polyclean and Whitehats. The building was relatively small and only had three offices. The Whitehats office was on the first floor, on the left coming in from the entrance of the building. I decided, while I was waiting for Rizwan Sabir, to take the opportunity to engage in a conversation with Bader and asked him about Whitehats. He also talked about his profession, a network specialist. About half an hour later I met with the CEO of Whitehats, Roger Gemayel. I spent the remainder of the day understanding the role and position of Whitehats in the world of business. I was given a booklet to study. I used this booklet to extract information and further understand Whitehats.
When I came back home that day, I was did not comfortable, and thought about what it would be like almost every day at Whitehats. Little did I know, it was only my first day.
2nd day:
The next day, I felt no motivation or ambition to get out of bed. I had not slept well and felt tired. I told myself that maybe today would be different and less boring. I bounced out of bed, put my clothes on, and then rushed downstairs to have breakfast. I left my house in no hurry and arrived at Whitehats about twenty minutes earlier. I felt more comfortable this day than the last. I went inside greeted the Whitehats team, sat down and waited. This morning another engineer, Asad Riaz, explained to me the different support Whitehats provided its' clients. He explained the difference between on-site support and remote support. Asad also told me about the services that Whitehats offered, such as installing repairing and setting up software and hardware on business devices. I learned that Whitehats helped companies rise by setting up for them an efficient workspace such as computers, servers and even security cameras. Every time a client called and reported an issue, it had to be logged in the Whitehats cloud for record and ease purposes. This kept track of calls and logs that have been resolved or that have not been resolved.
I started to get used to the feeling of an office workspace, this was a totally new experience for me, but it was definitely not a bad one.
3rd day:
The third day was a different experience, I got used to the people surrounding me in the office and felt at ease whilst I was there. In the past two days, I had learned so much of Whitehats, I realized that I was lucky to have found such an educating internship with kind, polite and welcoming people. That morning, I had the privilege of talking with Rameez Ul Hassan, since he was always busy, a UI and graphic designer. He first explained his job as a designer and then talked about the studies he followed while he was at university. Every member of the Whitehats team that I met were passionate about their professions, they were also dynamic and energetic, never wasting a moment. Designing had me really intrigued, the only problem was that I would have to struggle a lot since I was not born with a talent in drawing and painting. At around two in the afternoon, Rameez and I finished talking, this had given me the time to write down what he had explained. About an hour later, I was asked by Rizwan to go upstairs with him to Mr. Gemayel's office to have lunch. After lunch I thanked Mr. Gemayel, went back downstairs.
With time to spare, I decided to look into developing and programming. I had asked Rizwan if it were possible for me to speak with a developer so I could further learn about programming and developing. He told me that it could be arranged. The next day, I had to call Usama, a front- end developer who works for Whitehats in Pakistan.
4th day:
This day was the most educating day I had in Whitehats, and made this whole internship really interesting. I called Usama in the morning, he quickly explained his profession and the manner in which he and his team operated. Usama first had me look up HTML and CSS. After finishing our conversation, he had sent me a link to a website, where I could learn HTML and CSS, as well as JavaScript, and given me the task to program a basic website. I took the whole day to learn and improve my website, which looked better by the hour. It was a long process that took over two days.
Thanks to this experience, my consciousness is more clear about what I would like to study and work in the near future.
5th day:
This was it, the last day at my first internship. To be honest, I felt sad. I did not want to leave, this experience was amazing, I would definitely do another internship at
Whitehats. In this last day, I called the office in Pakistan to learn about Internet and Digital Marketing. Rafik, a digital marketing expert, explained content marketing, email marketing as well as FCO. After having talked with Rafik for the whole morning, I took the opportunity to work further on my website. I added more colors and text as well as images and effects. It took me a while to figure out how to organize the layout of the website. For lunch I was invited by two very kind employees, we went to a nearby food court in a mall and had a quick meal. When we got back to Whitehats, I started writing down my notes.
Before I left the building, I thanked the Whitehats team as well as Rizwan and Mr. Gemayel, for such a wonderful internship. I will miss this experience. Thank you Whitehats.
VI. My internship experience
My time At Whitehats was well balanced, between learning more about the company and the professions to writing down notes for my report. This was an educating experience which I would gladly do again, so that I could maybe take part in projects next time. Thanks to this one week internship, my consciousness is clearer, I have a better idea of what it is like to work in an office
