I quote from the lyrics: Hot as a hair dryer in your face
Hot as handbag and a can of mace
New York
I just got a place in New York
New York New York
In the first line is used a metaphor with a blaze since there are many fire escape in New York and it makes us remembering of the accident that happened two centuries ago, when the city of New York burnt, the snapshot in the video of the steame coming out off the ground that represents the hot hair coming in your face. The second line means that New York is a very dangerous city and that you always have to protect yourself even if it is in different ways. (I have already done the following lines previously.) I quote from the lyrics: In New York you can forget
Forget how to sit still
Tell yourself you will stay in
But it's down to Alphaville
New York
New York, New York
New York, New York
New York
U2 are saying that in New York, you cannot stay sit since New York is a very eventful city and it’s a city that doesn’t sleep, as Frank Sinatra said it in his song: “New York New York”! In New York, you have to work hard to earn money and to deserve your place. Furthermore, not every people can access to New York!!
Every one think that New York is the perfect city in which every things is possible so they tell their self that they got to stay, and if you want to remain there you got to work really hard, and mostly when you are an immigrant. An Alpha is the leader of wolf pack and we could imagine that it is a metaphor between New York and the other city, and in the legend, to become an alpha is a very difficult thing. Alphaville is the name of a famous restaurant and coffee located in Brooklyn. In the video, we got a picture of an immigrant that, we could suppose is a beaker since he is driving a huge bike with a big chest behind him that is hooked to the bike, it reminds me what I said previously, that in New York there is no mercy, if you want to live, you got to work hard, and in this picture, the man wakes up early to earn some money. We could suppose that the message that U2 wants to transmit is that New York is a very energizing city, and I would like to quote the citation: “No pain No gain” that I think, describes well the life in New York.[pic 5]
