ANG 4005 – Fourth assignment
Name: Albert Einstein
Born: March 14, 1879- Ulm, Germany
Died: April 18, 1955- Princeton, Massachusetts, USA
Albert Einstein was a physicist and scientist. He best known for his theory of relativity, which holds that measurements of space and time according to conditions such as the state of motion of the observer.
Albert Einstein, a mathematician and physicist, was born on 14 March 1879 in Ulm, Germany. He grew up in Munich in secular Jewish family where he obtained his early education. His father, Hermann Einstein, was a salesman and engineer who, with his brother, founded an electrochemical factory. Albert’s mother, the former Pauline Koch, ran the family household. He had one sister, Maja, born two years after him.
Einstein was a poor student, unable to speak fluently when he had nine years old. Some of his teachers thought he might be retarded and mentally handicapped. He was fascinated by the violin, he started to play it at age of six and he continued to play throughout his life.
He discovered geometry in his early age and he was mastered in mathematics specially to solve physics and engineering problems. He formally ended his secondary school when he had sixteen years old. He obtained his first diploma at the Cantonal School in Aarau, Switzerland, and in 1896.
After that, he was automatically admitted to the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland who were graduates from it in 1900. He got his first job as inspector in the patent office in Bern, Switzerland in 1902. At the age of twenty-six, he completed all necessary requirements for his doctoral degree and wrote his first revolutionary scientific papers.
Einstein was unfaithful. He divorced Mileva Maric, a Serbian physics former classmate in 1919 after 15 years of marriage and he got two sons with her. He got married to his cousin Elsa in the same year of his divorce. He continued to see other women throughout his second marriage, which ended with Elsa death in 1936
In 1921, Einstein won the Nobel Prize for Physics for his explanation of the photoelectric effect. He had held onto the belief that the universe was a fixed and static entity though his later theories directly contradicted this idea and asserted that the universe could be in a state of flux. As a physicist, He had many discoveries, but he is perhaps best known for his theory of relativity and the famous equation E=MC2 who mean that the energy in any particle is equal to its mass multiplied by the speed of light squared. It was foreshadowed the development of the atomic bomb. He immigrated to the U.S. after being targeted by the Nazis and he was offered a position at Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, Massachusetts.
