2.4 Fire Test Protocol
The suppressant performance of water mist systems must be proven by independent third party approved fire testing. It is vital that the fire test conducted accurately match the risk being protected and that it is approved by a recognized independent body. Without exception, the below atomizers shall be utilized.

3. SYSTEM COMPONENTS
3.1 Water Storage Cylinders
- Cylinders shall be made of seamless drawn steel according to the regulations of the TPED Directive 1999/39/EC (Transportable pressure equipments). Multiple cylinders shall be manifolded together to obtain the required quantity of water.
- Cylinders shall be thermally treated and shall have a working pressure of 200 bar (2900 Psi) and a hydraulic test pressure of 300 bar (4351 Psi).
- All models shall be designed, manufactured and approved according the European Directive 1999-36-EC (π marking).
- Cylinders shall have a capacity of 80 l (4882 cu. in.).
- Water mist cylinders shall be charged with water at atmospheric pressure and equipped with AQUATEC valve and protection caps to avoid water overflow during transport or installation.
3.2 Nitrogen Cylinders
- The cylinders shall be manufactured from steel, factory filled with nitrogen to a nominal pressure of 200 bars. Multiple cylinders shall be manifolded together to obtain the required quantity of nitrogen.
- The cylinders shall be approved according to the applicable European directives (π marking).
- The cylinders shall be supplied with LPG128-60 valve mounted and charged with nitrogen to 200 bar (2900 Psi).
- The cylinders shall be equipped with pressure gauges.
- Cylinder valves shall be brass and equipped with an anti-recoil feature. The cylinder valve can be actuated electrically, pneumatically, and/or manually with approved valve actuation components.
- Cylinders shall have a capacity of 80 l (4882 cu. in.).
- The cylinder bracketing shall be designed to rigidly support the installed nitrogen cylinders. The bracketing components shall be constructed of heavy structural steel. Bracket assemblies shall be available in modules and shall have the facility to be connected together for any combination.
3.3 Actuation System
- The nitrogen cylinders shall be equipped with an automatic valve, which shall be operated with electrical, pneumatic or manual actuation in accordance with the applicable design manual.
- Actuation system shall consist of a lever that when manually operated backwards and downwards pushes a needle against a release disk located on the valve body. Pneumatic actuation shall also be possible. The bursting of the release disk shall activate the valve.
- When electrically activated a small pyrotechnical charge (explosor) shall produce an overpressure used to burst an internal disc of the pilot valve.
- Actuation system shall be provided with a safety pin to prevent accidental actuation
3.4 Discharge Nozzles
- The nozzles shall be specifically designed to produce a desired spray pattern and angle, and to operate at a specific pressure and flow rate.
- Nozzle Parameters for Pendent (Downward) Position shall be the following:
- For enclosure heights up to 5.0 m:
- Maximum area coverage per atomizer = 9 m2.
- Maximum Distance between atomizers (atomizer spacing) = 3.0 m.
- Distance from wall (wall spacing) 2.1 m.
- Atomizers shall be positioned according to manufacturer’s design manual.
- Atomizer Parameters for Door Position shall be the following:
- Maximum Distance between atomizers (atomizer spacing) = 0.2 m
- Atomizers shall be positioned according to manufacturer’s design manual.

3.5 Pipe Network and Fittings
- Pipe should be non-welded stainless steel AISI 316L.
- Fittings and pipes shall be designed in accordance to FM Datasheet 4-2 and NFPA 750.
- Fittings shall be ring fittings PN315.
- Installation shall be earthed.
3.6 Supports and Bracings
- Pipe hangers and bracings shall be FM Approved.
- Supports and bracings shall be designed
