While other businessmen were complaining and groaning formed Dangote General Textiles

Products Enterprises and focused on what the government of the day wanted : exportation of

local products such as gum arabic, cotton, millet, cocoa, leather products, cotton and cashew

nuts. Some years later, Dangote paid a visit to Brazil where he saw the wonders of

manufacturing. He was inspired and motivated at the same time. Back from this travel, he

decided to enter into industry. Later, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida came into powe, Dangote

was into every sector of the Nigerian economy : real estat, cement, insurance, banking, textiles,

agriculture and more. Recently, Dangote proposed building a giant oil refinery that would mean

Nigeria could refine all its own petrol. Nigeria will get cheaper petroleum products than those

it now has to import, which will boost Dangote's Nigerian businesses and the economy overall.

Beyond his carreer, DANGOTE is also a generous donor. He said himself ‘Every year, I am mandated to give 2.5% of not what I made but of all my wealth but that is religious obligation. In addition to that, I do other philanthropic activities to fight poverty, provide education, improve the health sector and the environment. If I am to give away all my wealth, it will be to fight poverty.’ -ALIKO DANGOTE, Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy, September, 2012.

In conclusion, Dangote is distinguished from other entrepreneurs because it he combined the

benefits that were given to him by his family with a personal consequent investment. Although

he is the richest African on the planet, his ambitions do not stop the. Aside, his fortune has also

allowed Nigeria to enjoy various investments in key sectors.
