This influence on children's eating habits lead to a more thorough analysis of the commercials aired in children's programs. According to the UFC-Que Choisir, 87% of commercials aired during children's programs are sports for food products, most of them being too sweet, too salty or too fat. This focus advertising on food is a cause of the increase in childhood obesity. Indeed, a child who has been accustomed to seeing advertisements for a brand or a particular product easier to ask these parents to buy this famous product. These consumption habits therefore have short-term effects but also long term. A child used to eating fat, or badly will tend to do the same when he is an adult.
However, a new form of advertising emerged; prevention campaigns. Each year, several campaigns are trying to change lifestyles of citizens, whether they relate to diet, exercise, smoking, or drinking and driving. This is what is called in the jargon advertising, social marketing. This approach appears to offer promise for the promotion of health, according to a group of researchers from the University of Stirling, England.
The researchers wanted to assess the effectiveness of social marketing. They reviewed 88 English studies on the promotion of physical exercise and a healthy diet or the prevention and cessation of smoking and illegal drugs. These campaigns were conducted in different settings (schools, grocery stores, media) and on various target groups.
The majority of these actions have had positive effects on the population, apart from the intervention on physical activity, the results were less convincing. The researchers conclude that social marketing is a good educational tool at the individual level but also politically because it can influence lawmakers.
Today , advertising is a means of communication recognized and powerful. Its use is also very diverse , in fact it is mainly used for commercial purposes in order to create awareness , to promote a product . But we have seen that it was also an other kinds of advertising, such as which serve as tools in awareness campaigns. Currently , advertising is judged by the general population as excessive and too influential , encouraging individuals to consume products that might be qualified to second consumption, ie products that are not essential to existence. Yet few individuals liable to escape its impact as advertising excels in the art of persuasion .
