I think space exploration will stay a dream and a fantasy for human kind. Wanting to know doesn’t pay enough and governments are more willing to use their money for instantaneous economic results than for science. To keep going, space exploration will have to find an economic purpose. Maybe in movies, who knows? The film industry has more budget than the NASA, it stays possible that one day, directors will want to film directly in space.

To conclude, I’d say that space conquest is over and don’t progress anymore. Without economic results, it will stay this way for a long period of time. Nevertheless, one day, it is possible that an economical purpose is found such as the making of a movie for instance. And, I’d like to ask the question: Is progress more linked with economic results or with a development into knowledge? Well I don’t know!

Myth and heroes

I’m going to deal with the notion “Myth and heroes”. A myth is a story that may or may not be true. A hero is a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. It can be the main character in a book, in a film or a person with superhuman qualities. There are many kinds of heroes. Well, we have Marvel movies with many heroes like Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman… you get the idea. And in front of that, we have DC’s movies with Batman, Superman or Wonder woman. But today, I’d rather not talk about Comics heroes, the ones that are inventions, the ones that save the world only in myth. Today, I’d like to talk about people that may not have save the world but, people that tried to make the world a better place. For that, I’ve selected two different persons using two different movies.

First, I’d like to talk about Nelson Mandela using the movie “Mandela: Long walk to Freedom”. Nelson Mandela is a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary. He was the leader of the opposition for black liberation in South Africa. He stayed 27 years in prison and then become the first black president of the country. He is now considered as the leader of a generation, and as a hero for African people. We can even say that he is considered as a god for many.

Thanks to his wise word, the apartheid ended in peace. Indeed, like we see in the movie, after 42 years of white domination, black people could have wanted to get revenge. One of his most famous quote is “If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner.” This quote shows us the wisdom that Mandela mastered. After being jailed, bitten, hated, bombed he still says that peace in the South Africa will only come with forgiveness.

This man can definitely be considered as a hero because he devoted his entire life to peace and to the end of segregation. He is a wise figure, an inspiration and a model for many around the world. He contributed to make the world a better place for many people.

Secondly, I’d like to talk about someone completely different. He never fought for any kind of peace or liberty, he can be considered more as an anti-hero. I’d like to talk about Steve Jobs using the movie that has the same name “Steve Jobs” made by Danny Boyle.

Steve Jobs is the founder of Apple. He designed many tools that are used by millions of people around the world. Loved by many, hated by tons, Steve Jobs is a special man and the movie I’d like to talk about shows us how he really was.

He changed the world. Every new Apple product is a worldwide event. He made a huge change into technology and he is the one who brought computers, originally used for science, into anyone’s hand. But for real, he was kind of a crazy man.

For example, when his company was worth 441 million dollars, his daughter and wife were on welfare. And this is not the only example, nobody could ever understand him. Even if he changed the world, he is far from being perfect. He is honorable and admirable but he is also controversial. It’s a huge paradox that makes him an anti-hero.

To conclude, I’d like to compare the two persons. Nelson Mandela fought for peace and liberty; he changed the life of many people. Steve Jobs designed many tools used by millions of people around the world; he changed many people’s life too. So those two persons which it seems like they have nothing in common can actually be linked by their work. They are both heroes but in a completely different meaning and by doing completely different things.
